Cygames' popular RPG Princess Connect! Re: Dive has announced the shutdown of the game, which will end service globally on April 30, 2023. The slow death of the initial hype and the letdown of player anticipation are cited as the reasons for the game's demise nearly two years after its initial release.
Princess Connect! Re: Dive is a Japanese RPG created and published by Cygames. It was released in Japan on February 15, 2018, for both Android and iOS devices. Because of the approach it took, the game became an instant hit, and at its peak, it ranked first in sales in the Japanese App Store, and other regions followed suit with high sales.
Crunchyroll did not state a reason for ending support for the game. Furthermore, the game already appears as vaulted on the publisher's website, and a quick search on Android and iOS app stores shows no results. On the same note, many players expressed their frustration with Crunchyroll's treatment of the game.
On March 31, 2023, Princess Connect! Re: Dive announced its discontinuation, but officially, did not cite any reason for the same. However, data from AppMagic shows that the game was struggling since its initial release, and from then, had a downfall in downloads as well as revenue generation. This might be the major cause of the inevitable shutdown of the game.
As part of the transition, the in-game Shop has been closed, and all in-app purchases are no longer available for purchase. Players will be able to use any accumulated Jewels or similar resources until the game's closure at the end of April, including the two new characters releasing between now and then, Rin (Ranger) and Mahiru (Ranger), with the latter becoming available on April 17.
The game will still be available in Japanese after the global version ends service.
