The urban fantasy role-playing game is set in a post-apocalyptic city called New Eridu, calling all players as "Proxy" to help themselves and others survive in this world. Enemies named "Ethereal" have traveled to human’s world through portals called "Hollows". Those Ethereals are also the reason why human beings are almost coming to an end. They destroyed almost all the human civilization. But New Eridu, described as “the last shelter for urban civilization”, is an exception. Proxies’ journey will begin from this city, and they get to know people and friends, explore Hollows and fight against Ethereals.
Zenless Zone Zero, in the traditional manner of HoYoverse, offers an extensive set of characters that serve its story and promotional materials. The RPG's futuristic quality is enhanced by the cyberpunk cityscape, while its fast-paced combat aligns more with Genshin Impact than Honkai Star Rail.
